Why most calorie apps are subscriptions
AI photo analysis costs money every time it runs, so most apps recover that with a recurring plan. On the US App Store, Cal AI lists "Unlimited" plans from $2.99 to $29.99, and MyFitnessPal lists Premium from $9.99 to $79.99. Those plans renew until you cancel them.
That works if you log every day for a year. Many people track in bursts instead: a few focused weeks, a break, then another go before a holiday or after a check-up. A subscription charges for the months in between.
How Fitto charges instead
- You pay per scan. A photo, voice or text scan uses one credit. Editing, history, trends and streaks cost nothing.
- Packs are one-time purchases. 50 credits for $1.99, 150 credits for $2.99, 500 credits for $5.99.
- Credits never expire. Take a month off and they are still there.
- Barcode scans are free, so packaged food never uses a credit.
- You can earn scans. Logging streaks of 7, 30 and 100 days add 3, 10 and 25 free credits.
What it costs in practice
| How you log | Scans a month | Share of a $5.99 pack used |
|---|---|---|
| Every meal, every day | 90 | $1.08 |
| Two meals a day | 60 | $0.72 |
| Weekdays, one meal | 22 | $0.26 |
You pay $5.99 once for the 500-credit pack (US App Store price, checked 2026-09-17), then use it up at your own pace. The last column is how much of that pack a month of logging uses. Barcode scans use none.
Starting out
The first 100 accounts get 20 free scans, and every account after that gets 5. No card is needed, and there is no trial to cancel. See pricing for every pack.
